The name Bartın comes from "Parthenia." The origin of Parthenia is derived from the ancient name of the Bartın River, Parthenios. According to Greek mythology, Parthenios was one of the children of Oceanus, the father of the gods. This name is associated with the Water God and means "magnificently flowing water" or "god of waters."
